Terms & Conditions |
| Terms and
Conditions are set out in the form of Frequently Asked Questions. |
| We consider
that all bidders have read and agreed to the issues raised here. |
| Q: How can I pay ? |
| UK-based buyers: USA-based buyers: Other buyers: I do not take credit card or BidPay payments. |
| Q: How much is the shipping ? |
| A: For most items this will be stated in the description. If not we will gladly give you an estimate on request, though please give us a little time, as the item may not yet be packed. We believe that all eBay auctions should be truly international and, though based in the UK, will ship anywhere in the world. The stated price does not include insurance, which is voluntary. |
| Q: Is there a surcharge for packaging ? |
| A: We add a small amount for packing, just to cover our costs, but unlike many sellers we do NOT make a profit on the shipping and packing charges. Usually the packing charge will be just a few pence and if a shipping price is stated on the auction then this already INCLUDES the packing charge. If not, we'll gladly give you an estimate - just ask. |
| Q: What happens at the end of the auction ? |
A: On completion of the auction we expect most buyers to pay with Paypal, or to request our address so that a cheque may be sent. An invoice can be sent if required, but we do not always do this routinely. If we have not heard from you after a day or two we will attempt to contact you. However, if we have still not heard from you within five days of the end of the auction, we may sell to the underbidder, so if you are going away, please let us know before you bid. Please note that MOST communication will be by email, not eBay's message system, so it is important that you keep your details updated. Equally, we print address labels from the information provided by eBay at the close of the auction, so if this address is not correct it is your responsibility to change it. |
| Q: Is the item insured ? |
| A: Unlike some sellers we do not automatically make you pay for insurance. We obtain a proof of posting for all items sent, which includes free insurance cover for items up to £36 in value, technically only within the UK, although we have successfully claimed for items sent overseas in the past. The only way to insure within the UK is to use Special Delivery, the cost of which starts at £5. We will gladly add the extra for insurance - just ask for a revised invoice. If you choose NOT to insure that is your choice, but if it then does not arrive you must assume responsibility for its loss. We will always have documentary proof that it was handed to Royal Mail for delivery, and if neccessary will produce this in Court in the event of a clawback of funds on grounds of non-delivery. |
| Q: What happens if the item is lost or broken ? |
| A: Very few items are lost and we pack very well so do not expect you to receive a damaged item. However, you should insure any item sent overseas or any item sold for over £36 and sent within the UK, if you want to guarantee compensation. We cannot accept any responsibility for loss or breakage of items if not insured, though would consider carefully any evidence of negligence on our part. In the event of an insured breakage claim you would need to return the item to the Royal Mail, and it will remain their property if compensation is paid. Compensation, if paid, will include the costs of postage. |
| Q: Can I get my item quickly ? |
| A: Special Delivery items are guaranteed to arrive at most UK destinations by 1pm the day after posting. For International mail the only fast option is a courier, which is VERY expensive -much more than a courier from the States to the UK. Also, please note that we only go to the Post Office twice a week, and reserve the right to wait for your cheque to clear before mailing the item. Even items paid for by PayPal may not be mailed for a few days. If you will need the item urgently - tell us before bidding ! |
| Q: Can I reduce the shipping cost ? |
| A: UK:We can get a quote for second class if you wish, but only for items under 750g. For parcels weighing between 1kg and 2kg, it is cheaper to send by Parcelforce, but we do not recommend this service for breakables, and will therefore quote you for Royal Mail delivery unless requested. Over 2kg there is no choice, and Parcelforce will be used. International: Surface mail is about half the price of Airmail and takes (in theory) 8-10 weeks, although it is often much faster than this. If you have a preferred courier, and would like us to get a quote, just let us know. |
| Q: Can you include an invoice or receipt ? |
| A: Packages are often sent abroad by "small packet" rate. This is much cheaper than regular airmail, but it a condition of shipping that no paperwork can be enclosed. As your parcel will probably have been sealed before we knew its final destination, it will contain just your item or items. We can send a receipt, but please send a stamped addressed envelope with your payment, or request an unsigned one by email. |
| Q: The auction ended over three days ago, and I've not heard from you - why ? |
| A: Some ISPs (including AOL) have on occasion blocked all emails from our ISP (which is actually one of the best UK companies). If you have a twitchy service provider, with over-vigilant spam filters, and are surprised that we have not been in touch lately, then please contact us by another method (e.g. request our phone number from eBay). We have an emergency email address which can be used, but will only give this out if we are aware there is a problem. |
| Q: Have you got another item like that ? |
| A: We are often asked, after completion of an auction, if we have another similar item for sale. This is usually because the bidder tried to bid at the last minute and either forgot, or their sniping software failed. We'd therefore encourage everyone to bid early if possible, even if just a holding bid. EBay will not allow messages from a seller to underbidders after the auction, but will allow us to list the item for a "second-chance-offer". Of course, we can only do this if you are the underbidder. So, yes, it is possible we do have another, so bid early ! |
| Q: Do we have a legal contract ? |
| A: Once an auction ends, C20th agrees to sell the item to the high bidder at the price shown, and by winning the auction you will be entering into a legal contract to purchase the item at that price. Non-compliance with that contract will result in an action in the small claims court to recover the funds, although every attempt will first be made to settle out of court. The only exception to the establishment of a legal contract is if there has been a breakdown at eBay during the last hour of the auction, making last minute bids impossible. EBay will only extend an auction if there has been a general breakdown of 2 hours or more, but we feel that it is reasonable that last minute bidders should be physically able to place their bids. Therefore if an auction was not visible during the last minutes of an auction we consider it to be null and void, and that we are under no obligation to sell to the high bidder. In this circumstance we will relist the auction, starting at the same (or lower) price. |
